The Sanford Airport Authority (SAA) is made up of nine members who are appointed by the Sanford City Commission. The SAA elects its own chairman, vice chairman, and treasurer. Meanwhile, the airport is operated by the President/CEO—who is appointed by the SAA—and a staff of more than 270 full-time employees.

The public purpose of the Sanford Airport Authority is to provide for the sound planning, development, maintenance, and operation of airport facilities and associated infrastructure. The Authority exists to serve the public interest by ensuring the safe and efficient provision of air transportation services, driving regional economic development, and managing the property and operations of what is now the Orlando Sanford International Airport for the benefit of the City of Sanford and the surrounding district.
