Travel is for Everyone

Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) is proud to participate in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, an awareness initiative that helps individuals with non-visible disabilities discreetly communicate that they may benefit from additional time, patience, or understanding while traveling.

Participants may voluntarily indicate that they have a non-visible disability or condition by wearing a green lanyard decorated with yellow sunflowers. The lanyard serves as a discreet signal to airport staff and others that extra patience, assistance with communication, or understanding may be appreciated. Participation is voluntary, available free of charge, and no proof of disability is required to receive a sunflower lanyard. Non-visible disabilities may include neurological, cognitive, sensory, chronic health, mental health, or other conditions that may not be immediately apparent.

Through its participation in this program, SFB is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive travel environment for all passengers.

How it works

  • Passengers may choose to wear a sunflower lanyard to discreetly communicate that they may benefit from additional time, patience, understanding, or assistance with communication during their travel experience.
  • SFB staff and terminal partners are trained to recognize the sunflower symbol and respond with awareness, empathy, and respect.
  • The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program is an awareness initiative only and does not provide expedited screening, priority processing, or guaranteed accommodations. Passengers requiring accessibility-related assistance should coordinate directly with their airline and/or TSA Cares prior to travel.

Examples of hidden disabilities include: Autism, anxiety disorders, hearing or vision impairments, PTSD, dementia, epilepsy, Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia, learning disabilities, and more.
