Florida is known as the “Destination Capital of the World”. It’s no surprise as we are the home of infamous attractions such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Kennedy Space Center, and so much more. Each year, millions of visitors come to experience a Flordia vacation. While most of Orlando Sanford International Airport passengers are flying through headed down to Orlando, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of the fun there is to be had in SFB’s backyard- Seminole County.

Seminole County may be a hidden gem to some of the world, but its residents know the county located just north of Orlando is full of fun and exciting things to do. This month, SFB is celebrating Seminole County as its Destination of the Month!

1. Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens
Just minutes away from Orlando Sanford International Airport, is the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. With 100’s of zoo animals, an exciting aerial adventure course, a tropical splash pad, breathtaking botanical gardens, and so much more, plan a day of fun your whole family can enjoy.
2.The Black Hammack Marina
Experience thrilling airboat rides at the Black Hammock. If you’re interested in exploring all of the unique nature that exist in Central Florida, don’t leave until you visit the Black Hammock. Guests can expect to encounter turtles of all sizes, various species of birds, and no airboat excursion in Florida would be complete without alligators. Make a day of visit to Black Hammock and visit their Lazy Gator Bar.
3.Wekiwa Springs
Wekiwa Springs is a MUST-SEE for all nature lovers. Many don’t know this but, Wekiwa Springs is one of Florida’s longest-running tourist attractions. Enjoy swimming in crystal-clear water that is a refreshing 72 degrees year-round. If you don’t want to take a swim, there’s still so much to do. Consider hopping on your bike and exploring the trails, fishing, or canoeing. Make a day trip out of your visit or camp overnight for a full experience.
4. Historic Downtown Sanford
Once referred to as Florida’s “Historic Waterfront Gateway,” Sanford is now your gateway to fun, art, culture, delicious food and beverages. Weekends in Downtown Sanford are unforgettable! Now you may think we’re biased because Sanford is our hometown but eating through downtown Sanford is an experience like no other. Using fresh and local ingredients is a top priority at The Tennessee Truffle, The Smiling Bison, and The District. You can also eat your way around the world; maybe you can start with fine German cuisine at Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Cafe or colorful food of the Mediterranean at Zorba’s. Grab a taste of the islands with flavorful dishes of Jamaica at Negril Spice or authentic Mexican at El Zocalo. And after you’re done eating, we recommend you hit Wondermade for the best-handcrafted ice cream and marshmallows around. We recommend the cornbread ice cream!
5. Lockheed Martin’s Space and Air Show
If you are traveling to Seminole County this month, you’re in luck! Orlando Sanford International Airport is excited to share we will be hosting Lockheed Martin’s first title-sponsored Space and Air Show featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds October 31-November 1, 2020. Come experience the most advanced military aircraft in the world in an action-packed death-defying show. It’s not too late to grab your tickets and be a part of the action.
