Airport Layout Plan Update
Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB or the Airport), owned and operated by the Sanford Airport Authority (SAA), is a small hub, primary commercial service airport in northern Seminole County. The SAA has started the process of updating the Airport’s airport layout plan (ALP) drawing. An ALP is a tool required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure grant eligibility for future projects. Any future project requesting grant funding must be depicted on the ALP. The ALP is developed by incorporating the proposed recommendations of a master plan or airport layout plan update identified through detailed analyses. The ALP is a living document that is updated as projects are completed or refined through further analysis.
It should be noted that all identified projects are required to complete an environmental review and approval process prior to any design or construction efforts.
The most recent FAA-approved master plan and ALP for SFB began in 2017 and was finalized and approved in Fall 2021. This update will primarily focus on the airfield to identify safety enhancing projects and consider scenarios to optimize airfield configuration for safe and efficient operations now and into the future. This effort will build off previous planning for the Airport and will obtain additional input and workshop alternative considerations with key airfield users and stakeholders throughout the process. The result will be identifying near term opportunities, selection of a preferred plan, updating the ALP and other associated sheets in the ALP drawing set, and the preparation of an ALP Narrative Report. The ALP Narrative Report and ALP drawing set are expected to be completed by January 2027.
